The Phareros Score is our own honest, 0–100 rating of every product we sell — not customer reviews, and not vendor hype. It’s applied by the same formula to our entire catalog, including products that score low. If something is cheap porous plastic, our score says so; if it’s body-safe silicone from a brand people trust, our score says that too.
What goes into the score
- Body-safety & materials (weighted most, for toys). Non-porous, body-safe materials — medical-grade silicone, glass, stainless steel, ABS — score highest. Porous materials that can’t be fully sanitised — PVC, jelly, rubber, latex — score lower. (For apparel and accessories, where body-safety doesn’t apply, we weight the other pillars instead.)
- Brand reputation. Brands with a real track record for body-safety and quality — and brands people actively search for and buy — carry more weight than unbranded or generic goods.
- Real demand. A blend of long-run sales through our distribution and genuine search interest on Google. A product proven by either signal earns credit; hype does not.
Why we show low scores
Because a rating that never criticises is just marketing. We’d rather tell you honestly that a $25 toy is budget PVC — fine for trying a shape cheaply, not ideal for long-term or shared use — and point you to a body-safe alternative if you want one. Yes, we still sell the low-scoring products, and yes, we profit from them. The score just helps you buy with your eyes open.
How to read it
- 70–100 — body-safe, well-regarded, proven.
- 40–69 — a solid, sensible choice.
- Below 40 — usually budget or porous materials; know what you’re buying.
