Good to know — porosity, safety & the honest detail

Is stainless steel body-safe?

Yes. It’s non-porous, works with any lube, and cleans thoroughly. Quality toys use surgical/316 stainless, which is corrosion-resistant and releases very little nickel.

Is stainless steel OK with a nickel allergy?

Stainless steel contains some nickel, but surgical grades release very little and most people with mild sensitivity tolerate it. If your nickel allergy is significant, check the grade with the maker or choose glass or silicone.

Why is it so heavy?

The weight is the appeal — steel gives a firm, grounding pressure, and its mass holds warmth or cool for temperature play.

  1. Wash with soap and water; it can be boiled to sanitise.
  2. Warm or cool gently for temperature play and wrist-test first.
  3. Dry fully and store padded to avoid scratches.
For the material nerds ↓
Body-safe toys use austenitic stainless such as 316L — iron alloyed with chromium, nickel and molybdenum. The chromium forms a self-healing passive oxide layer that resists corrosion and keeps metal-ion (including nickel) release very low. It’s non-porous and non-magnetic, which is why it cleans completely and tolerates boiling.
